Case study on SME valuation with Marc Duhamel & Rim Frini
After the first theory session (on October 1st) on SME valuation with Marc Duhamel, Scientific Director, CTEQ and Professor, UQTR (Québec, Canada) & Rim Frini, Vice-Chair of Career Development for CAPS/ACPP, and postdoctoral fellow at UQTR (Québec, Canada), during this session you’ll be able to work on a case study in small groups.
In the case study session we delve deeper into the workings of business evaluation of a small family business of the manufacturing sector of Quebec (Canada). First, we analyse the results of an initial valuation carried out by the accountant of the company that used a traditional accounting approach based on net assets. Second, we reconsider the valuation of the same business incorporating prospects for future profitability and the value of the company’s intangible capital, such as goodwill. In light of these two business valuation exercises, participants are asked to consider the importance of valuing intangible capital to advise the owners and family successors about business transfer strategies. At a practical level, the case study provides concrete tools to help accountants, consultants, and families value a family business more comprehensively, considering both emotional and strategic issues.
We look forward to having you attend the event!
